School libraries: Contributing to school success

Coggle mind map by Emma Cox

Some initial readings of ETL504 Module 2 prompted me to reflect (Heick, 2014) and consider how my school library and my work as a teacher librarian fits within the broader context (Colvin, 2000) given we are an ACT public, and International Baccalaureate World School. We strive to meet Australian Curriculum and International Baccalaureate (IB) requirements, whilst also working towards the strategic goals set by our school board.

When our school library is viewed as mapped out above, or indeed using the AISTL leadership profiles, it is easy to see why the libraries are considered the "heart of the school" and I was pleased to see the way our library and my work as a teacher librarian (Harris, 2014) contributes to the success of my school.

My mind map was created using coggle a fantastic digital mind mapping tool. A free account offers a limited number of private mind maps and unlimited public ones. In my experience, it is easier and more intuative to use than Lucidcharts, and I love the colour coding and modern asthetic.
